Be Safe & Respectful this Halloween

With Halloween being just around the corner, Rochford District Safer Community Partnership wants to remind local families of some important safety advice to ensure that everyone has a happy, fun and safe evening.

Halloween is an exciting time particularly for young children but it’s also an important time to be extra vigilant for potential safety hazards. If you are planning to go out trick or treat make sure you go out in groups and younger children are always accompanied by an adult. NEVER go into any homes or accept lifts in people’s cars.

If you are planning to stay in, never feel you have to answer the door to anyone if you don’t feel safe or are feeling intimidated. If you know you don’t want to be disturbed by trick or treaters put a ‘No trick or treat’ sign in your window.

The partnership are also urging everyone to be vigilant and be aware of the potential risks linked with fancy dress costumes and naked flames. Don’t be tempted to buy cheap Halloween accessories particularly over the internet especially without the CE Mark which is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards.

If you need to report anti-social behaviour call 101, which is the 24 hour police non-emergency number, or if it’s an emergency or if there is a crime being committed call 999.
