Free Allergan Training for Rochford District Food Outlets

Free allergen training for district’s businesses

Food outlets across the District are being offered free workshops about allergen labelling and controls within the workplace.

Food handlers are legally required to be suitably trained in food hygiene, and legislation introduced in December 2014 makes food businesses legally responsible for providing food allergy information to customers. Restaurants, hotels, takeaways, sandwich shops and other catering establishments all need to comply with the rules.

Trading Standards will be delivering a series of workshops covering legal requirements, practical solutions for providing consumer information and producing and delivering allergen-safe food.

Everyone who manages and handles food in catering businesses should have sufficient knowledge to enable them to do their job safely. This includes people who work in restaurants, cafes, takeaways, home catering businesses, staff restaurants,

school kitchens, nursing and care homes, pubs, sandwich shops and hotels.

Increasing numbers of people suffer allergic reactions every year from ingesting allergens in food. The number could be greatly reduced if more people involved in the production, preparation and serving of food were aware of the risks to consumers.

The sessions available are:

  • 31st October  - 10am -1pm – Cressing Temple
  • 7th November – 10am -1pm – Colchester United Football Club (parking is available at both venues)
