Let’s give our waste team a helping hand and be extra vigilant with our rubbish!

17/04/2020

Rochford District Council would like to thank residents for their continued support and encouragement of our waste collection crews over this challenging period.

Thanks to our teams, kerbside collections are continuing with little disruption to households, but we have unfortunately seen increased levels of contamination in the household recycling bins.

The higher levels of misplaced items have resulted in rejected loads by the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This means that we cannot properly dispose of the waste our crews are so valiantly collecting.

We are also seeing large amounts of waste being placed in street litter bins, this is diverting staff away from emptying household bins which could result in our ability to empty your bins at home.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Arthur Williams said: “Litter bins are provided by the council  to keep our streets clean and tidy, as they enable the public to deposit small amounts of litter, they are not provided for household waste.

“Our crews are all working very hard trying to ensure household bin collections run as normal as possible, please ensure that you are using your wheelie bins correctly and placing the right items in each bin, this will help to ensure that we can continue to empty as many bins as possible during this difficult time.

“Our simple message, please do not misuse the bins, let’s give our waste crews a helping hand so they can continue to keep our bins as clear as possible.”
